The murder case is solved. The director (Gore Vidal) is the killer and Vincent (Ethan Hawke) had nothing to do with it. Vincent confronts the detective, who turns out to be his younger, genetically-engineered brother Anton. His brother challenges him to another swimming endurance test. Vincent wins and rescues his brother. He reveals his true identity to Irene (Uma Thurman). She accepts him the way he is. Jerome (Jude Law) sets him up with enough genetic material to last him a lifetime and tells Vincent he's travelling too. Vincent is set to go into space but they ask him for a urine sample. He doesn't have any of his equipment to fake the sample. He gives a true sample and starts to admit his identity to the doctor. The doctor implies that he already knew Vincent was an impostor. He lets Vincent go on the flight anyway, alluding to his own son's genetic disposition. Jerome commits suicide in his home's incinerator while wearing his second-place swimming medal. Vincent, en route to Titan, opens an envelope with a lock of hair from Jerome, has second thoughts about leaving Earth for a year, but realises he may be symbolically returning to his true home in space.

Revealing mistake: When Jude Law needs to pull himself up the flight of stairs to reach the intercom, you can see him use his hips, despite the fact that he is paralyzed from the waist down.

Trivia: The staircase in the house of the real Jerome Morrows is actually a resemblance of a DNA structure. Similar to Watson and Crick's model, except for the fact that the staircase has a right-handed turn. The DNA helix is a left-handed turn.

Question: In the scene where Vincent is just about to launch, the doctor testing him mentions his son. My brother seems to think that the doctor knows Vincent is not who he pretends to be because he is Jerome Morrow's father. Is there any evidence for this?

Answer: None whatsoever. The doctor seems to have worked out that Vincent is not who he seems to be from simple observational evidence. It's because of his son that he feels sympathy for Vincent and hasn't revealed that he's tricking the system.
